On April 13, The Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma and the Choctaw Development Fund awarded the town of Red Oak $99,200 that will be used to construct a brand new, turn-key Reading Center for the town of Red Oak and surrounding communities.
The Choctaw Development Fund supports economic viability and sustainability by partnering with Choctaw small business owners, cities and municipalities to create long-term growth and job creation within the territories of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma.
"The goal of the Reading Center is to provide our community with access to resources and materials in a location without a leaking roof and crumbling exterior," states Leslie Robertson, Mayor of Red Oak. "We're very grateful to the Choctaw Nation for their support on this project. Without them, projects like this, and several others would not be possible."
The Town of Red Oak has little access to collections of popular and new books and The Red Oak Reading Center will support students and the community in their thirst for knowledge. In addition, the center will offer access to wi-fi, computers, printers and host community meetings as well as other events.
The expected completion date for the Reading Center is early July 2021.
